A specialized course for Athletic trainers interested in a manual approach to evaluating and treating neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The course will consist of learning the common patterns of throwing mechanics that create tension along the brachial plexus and its branches, the muscular and fascial junctions where nerve entrapments can occur and the manual techniques to improve nerve glide. Emphasis will be given to establishing movement between muscular seams and improving tension along the long nerve pathway as it affected in throwing mechanics. This is a hands-on course. A copy of the slide presentation will be provided along with note taking space. This is a 4.0 CEU approved course for the BOC Category A

Participants are expected to be proficient in anatomy, sport specific mechanics, palpation and identification of tissue.

Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to:

1.             Identify at least two areas of muscular entrapment of each nerve, median, radial and ulnar

2.       Differentiate between nerve entrapment and soft tissue restriction limiting range of motion

3.       Perform successful release of soft tissue restriction improving glide and motion between muscles

Dr. Donna Copertino, DC is a Doctor of Chiropractic Rehabilitation with Specialization in Active Release Technique, Graston Technique, SFMA, Chain Reaction 3 Dimensional Biomechanics, DNS and ScarWorks. She is the Director and Founder of Back in Action: Athletic Performance Training Center with over 20 years clinical experience.

Target Audience: Manual Approach to Neurogenic TOS is intended for licensed and/or certified athletic trainers/manual therapists whose professions allow manual touch and passive movement of joints within their scope of practice. This includes but is not limited to Athletic Trainers, Physical therapists, Chiropractors and Massage Therapists.
